Enjoy a Marae stay and experience the rich Maori culture and heritage of the Bay of Islands.

One of our signature experiences is a unique, cross-cultural experiential outdoor education programme that’s typically based around a four-day stay at a local marae in the rural beachfront community near Russell township.

Set far away from urban distractions and in a peaceful natural environment, this character-building course is designed to give local kids and teenagers, as well as foreign students, a sense of cultural identity and of who they are, by introducing them to local customs in a kainga (Maori settlement).

By exploring the nearby forest (ngahere) and ocean-based activities such as fishing, students cultivate an appreciation for the natural world around them and learn valuable life skills and values such as empathy, trust and open communication, that make them stronger and more resilient to deal with the curveballs of life as they head into adulthood.

The itinerary and length of stay may vary, as the courses are specifically designed depending on each group. Prices are POA, and accommodation, all meals and activities (including jet skis and water taxi rides) are included.
